How Double Glazing Improves Energy Efficiency

Double glazed windows use two panes of glass separated by a sealed gap, often filled with air or an inert gas, rather than the single pane found in standard windows. That gap acts as an extra layer of insulation, slowing heat transfer through what is normally one of a home's weakest points in its outer envelope.
Because windows are typically a major source of both heat loss in winter and heat gain in summer, improving their insulating performance can noticeably reduce how hard heating and cooling systems need to work to keep an interior at a comfortable, consistent temperature throughout the changing seasons of the year.
Beyond the direct energy savings, double glazing also tends to reduce noise transfer and condensation on the inside of windows, since the inner pane stays closer to room temperature rather than tracking the outdoor temperature the way a single pane of glass typically does across a cold night.
