Small gaps around doors, windows, floorboards and wall penetrations let conditioned air escape and outside air enter, undermining the effectiveness of insulation and heating or cooling systems even when both are otherwise well installed and functioning exactly as intended throughout the rest of the home, undermining money already spent elsewhere.
Draught sealing addresses these gaps directly using materials like weatherstripping around doors and windows, sealant around fixed gaps, and door snakes or brush seals for larger openings, generally at a considerably lower cost than major insulation or window upgrades would otherwise require of a household budget.
