Understanding Hydrogen Fuel Cell Vehicles

A hydrogen fuel cell vehicle generates electricity onboard by combining hydrogen with oxygen from the air in a fuel cell, producing electricity to power an electric motor along with water vapour as the only byproduct released from the vehicle's exhaust during ordinary operation on the road.
This approach differs from a more conventional battery electric vehicle mainly in how the electricity itself is stored and produced: a fuel cell vehicle carries compressed hydrogen gas and generates electricity as needed, while a battery electric vehicle stores electricity directly and draws on it from a fixed onboard supply.
Refuelling a hydrogen vehicle can be considerably faster than charging a battery electric vehicle, closer in practice to refuelling a conventional petrol car, though the availability of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure remains far more limited in most places than the charging infrastructure that now supports battery electric vehicles far more widely across most regions today.
